I’m a smallish, loud, energetic and generally happy Hobbit.
We refer to ourselves as Hobbits, not because we are huge Tolkien fans (although my mother was an avid reader, and read the trilogy at least once a year for as long as she can remember) but because we are characteristically Hobbity in that we are small, we LOVE to eat, and we’re probably fairly simple folks who end up on many epic adventures. Not unlike the characters created by the literary giant who penned the phrase Hobbit.
I Was born in Canada, moved to Scotland, moved back to Canada and FINALLY got out when I was 16 years old and came to New Zealand as an exchange student. New Zealand is my home, and I feel blessed every time I am given a chance to to reflect upon this fact. My parents followed me over, we are very proud Kiwi (or perhaps more accurately, Caniwi) folk.
Married over a decade to small, dark and handsome Hobbit Steve West. He’s an incurably good man, and frequently referred to as a genius. I won’t disagree. He’s a mad scientist, a born romantic, a dedicated father, an alternative energy evangelist, an elegant software programmer and the Love of my life.
We currently have four children. Aged 11, 10, 6 and 2. They are bright, kind, and endlessly exhausting and entertaining characters, and a source of great pride and frustration for myself and our tightly knit family and circle of friends.
I talk a lot about being frustrated, and what I learn through some of the challenges I get thrown. I talk a lot about my friends and family, and I talk a lot about New Zealand. And Travel. And food. And Electric cars. Well, I guess, you never know what you are going to get if you join me.
Opinions are my own, if I portray something as fact I will endeavour to give evidence to corroborate and cite my sources.
Thank you for joining me on this journey. I hope you enjoy and we learn something as we go.
